10 Ways to Improve Your Beauty and Hair

Introduction

Everyone has some kind of beauty that they can improve on. No matter how amazing you think you look, there are always ways to improve your appearance and the way you feel about yourself. Whether it’s your hair, your skin, or even just your posture, you can take actions to make yourself look and feel better every day. Here are 10 simple things you can do to improve your beauty and hair every day.

1) Don’t Over-Wash it

It’s tempting to want clean hair all of the time, but over-washing can actually do more harm than good. Repeatedly shampooing your hair strips it of its natural oils and can make your scalp produce even more oil in response. Over-washing will also cause dryness and breakage—definitely not something you want when you have great hair days coming up! Try for once a week or less, at least for a while. Stick with that routine for two weeks, then see how it feels from there—you might find you don’t even need to wash your hair every single week, as long as you use dry shampoo on off days (see #5).

2) Eat Healthy Foods

Improving your overall health will make it easier for you to improve your hair, skin, and nails. For example, if you have an eating disorder or are taking a drug that causes poor nutrition, you’ll see poor hair growth as a result. Similarly, if you suffer from an autoimmune disease that weakens your immune system, like celiac disease or lupus erythematosus (LE), then your skin could show signs of premature aging—another sign of malnutrition. Don’t neglect your body in hopes of improving another part; work on improving all aspects at once by adding healthy foods into your diet.

3) Protect your hair from damage

Heat damage occurs when hair is exposed to high heat for a long period of time. This can happen from things like blow drying, curling, flat ironing or even hot summer weather. Many times people don’t even realize that their hair has been damaged by these things. Take precautions such as using a heat protecting product on your hair before styling with any device that may cause damage, as well as limiting how often you wash your hair so you keep your locks in top shape. Additionally, try going out of your way to be sure you have an umbrella during sunny months, which can help protect your locks from the damaging effects of harsh UV rays.

4) Use high quality products

Looking good means spending money. When you make good investments in your personal appearance, such as buying a quality shampoo or sunscreen, you’ll look better and also save money by not having to constantly replace inferior products. For example, a $15 tube of sunscreen could last you an entire summer if it prevents even one sunburn. If you invest in high-quality products that are worth their price tag (and most of them are), you can maintain an excellent look for less overall cost. Our hair is one of our most precious assets; after all, we spend years growing it out!

5) Keep a good grooming kit at home

You wouldn’t use a dirty spoon to scoop out peanut butter, so why would you use a dirty brush or comb on your locks? Wash them often with mild shampoo, ideally after every use. A buildup of product can cause hair to dry out and become brittle over time. Alternatively, you can also invest in good quality tools that can withstand repeated washing; try Mason Pearson brushes for perfectly styled tresses that look shiny all day long.

6) Use only clean tools when styling your hair

If you use a brush or comb that's filled with hair products, it could leave residue on your hair. Residue could add weight to your hair, making it look duller. Or it might attract extra oil from your scalp, making your hair oily. You may need to replace tools every month or so if you use them often. When styling thick, curly or coarse hair styles with round brushes, straightening irons or curling irons that can be damaged by heat--you should clean them once a week at least. Use warm water and mild soap (such as dish soap) rather than rubbing alcohol or commercial cleaning solutions because they are too harsh for delicate plastic parts; drying them in a cool oven also helps loosen residue buildup.

7) If you use heat – use it wisely

Many hairstylists suggest not using your flat iron or curling iron every day. That advice is as much about keeping your hair healthy as it is about preserving your tool. Using heat in excess can damage both your hair follicles and other components of your flat iron – such as its plates, internal wiring, or even motor. Try limiting its use to once a week – if that’s too tough, just let it rest for 24 hours before using again. It will help restore any lost luster and keep you from having to buy a new one anytime soon!

8) Get regular trims

The hair on your head tends to grow a lot faster than any other body part, which can create quite a problem. The longer your hair is, the harder it is for you to notice split ends or damaged areas. In order to look your best at all times, it’s important that you schedule regular appointments with a hairstylist. A good rule of thumb is that you should get trims every 8 weeks (since your locks grow an average of 1⁄2 inch every month). If you prefer not to spend money on haircuts, try learning how to trim and style your own tresses at home! YouTube videos are great resources if you want step-by-step instructions. Good luck in transforming yourself into an elegant beauty!

9) Keep your scalp healthy

All hair starts at the scalp, so it's important to take care of it. One way to improve your beauty is by paying special attention to what you put on your scalp. If you have dandruff or an irritated scalp, washing with an anti-dandruff shampoo will help remove flakes and restore healthy skin underneath. Be careful not to pick at flaking skin if you have a dandruff problem; scratching only makes things worse and can irritate your skin further. To keep hair looking great, don't forget about proper hygiene. Washing your hair daily (or every other day) with a gentle shampoo will go a long way in preventing split ends, which are unattractive and make styling more difficult.

10) Stay positive about your looks

Sure, there’s always something you can do better. But work on your self-esteem before taking a critical eye to your looks. The less confident you are about how you look, or even how good you feel about yourself overall, the more likely it is that your thoughts will be destructive in a way that sabotages your attempts at looking or feeling better. If there’s one thing we know for sure: It’s hard enough (and takes long enough) to make progress with making physical changes; when there are obstacles in your head as well, it can become nearly impossible to achieve anything.
